Mr. Joseph "Joe Dirt" Williams, PSM

The Epitome of Innovation, Family Man, Veteran

Mr. Joseph Williams, widely known as “Joe Dirt,” was born in Jacksonville, FL, in 1980. His family relocated to St. Augustine, FL, in 1992, where his entrepreneurial and service journey began. After graduating from Bible Baptist High School, Joe married Athena Hinman. In 2007, he co-founded Indianhead Exploration with Col. Roy H. Hinman II, launching a local yard waste recycling initiative that has served the St. Augustine community for over a decade. Indianhead also serves as a FEMA emergency operations base, assisting with waste disposal and debris management following natural disasters.

Joe met Lindsay, a fellow St. Augustine native, in 2014. The couple married 2014, and share a daughter, Olivia, affectionately known as "Livy Loves Dirt." In 2015, Joe and Lindsay expanded Joe Dirt Inc. and pursued certifications in Project Safety Management (PSM) from the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology. With over a decade of experience, Joe and Lindsay have earned a reputation as leading safety professionals, overseeing workplace safety protocols across multiple industries. Their expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and compliance ensures that every project they manage meets the highest safety standards.

Outside of work, Joe and Lindsay enjoy scuba diving, giving back to the community, and spending time with their family. Joe serves on the board of Horse Play Therapy, an organization that provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy to children through horseback riding, also known as hippotherapy. Both Joe and Lindsay volunteer at the St. Augustine Horse Play Therapy Center, making a meaningful impact in their local community.

In 2018, inspired by Lindsay’s passion for recycling, composting, and plants, Joe began exploring additional uses for the materials he was recycling—wood waste, biosolids, and lime. In collaboration with Col. Hinman and Mr. Blake Merrill, Joe helped develop a process to convert biosolids and bulking agents into a beautiful, rich compost—perfect for lawns, golf courses, and especially Lindsay’s Garden. Through Indianhead, Joe’s composting project creates a simple agricultural product accessible to everyone, while helping Northeast Florida address its growing waste management and recycling challenges. Now, six years later, Joe proudly celebrates meaningful progress toward these goals.

In addition to composting and recycling, Joe has pioneered a foolproof terraseeding method—so fast and effective that it can quickly grow lush, green grass without the need for chemical fertilizers. Joe excels in problem-solving and project management, offering top-tier logistics and delivery services at competitive rates. His innovative approach to waste management and composting has made him a respected leader in St. Augustine, where he remains dedicated to finding sustainable solutions for today’s environmental issues.

Joe is one of the few pioneers in Florida’s composting frontier—transforming "waste" into something remarkable. Joe, our family, and our amazing team members are committed to educating the public on recycling, biosolids, and composting by simplifying the science and addressing the “ick” factor often associated with the process.
